What’s it all about?

A career in travel and tourism can offer you a world of opportunities! Further develop your skills in international travel and tourism to fly high in a new career. The travel industry is constantly evolving in many ways despite set backs, within the next 5 - 10 years it is predicted to employ approx 3.7 million people in the UK and there are opportunities available for various careers.

This is a 2 year study program to fully complete the HND in International Travel & Tourism Management. The course covers a wide variety of topics to ensure you have a broad knowledge of the travel & tourism sector.

You must have achieved at least 48 UCAS points or extensive, relevant industry experience. GCSE / level 2 maths and English is preferred.

You could purchase books from the recommended reading list, however, they are available to borrow from the college’s Learning Centre. You will have the opportunity to participate in relevant visits some are mandatory others may be optional, costs will be provided at enrolment and students will pay for these themselves (partially subsidised) .

You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars, guest speakers and mandatory educational visits to visitor attractions, hotels and residential visits. All educational visits directly link to a unit you will be studying and they will support both your knowledge and academic achievements.

The course is delivered to a set timetable Monday - Friday between the hours of 9am - 9pm, a timetable will be provided at the start of the course.

Within the course you will typically have 12 contact hours per week, consisting of lectures and seminars and a one-to-one meeting with your Personal Tutor for approximately 1 hour per semester.

You will be given a variety of homework and research tasks to complete in your own time so will be expected to complete assignment work in your own time.

This higher education course is aimed at anyone with a desire to pursue a career within the vibrant travel & tourism sector at perhaps a more managerial level in their career progression.

You will study 7 core units - The Contemporary Travel & Tourism Sector, Managing the Customer Experience, Professional Identity & Practice, The Travel & Tourism Business Toolkit, Leadership & Management for Service Industries, Research Project and Tourism Consumer Behavior. There are also additional units studied to enable a further development of knowledge and skills in preparation for a career in the sector.
