What’s it all about?

This programme will develop the essential knowledge and understanding necessary for working within the Health and Care sector. You will develop your knowledge of infection prevention and control as well as how to deliver effective customer service within health and social care settings. You will develop your awareness of customer service skills in health and social care, effective communication, as well as an understanding of customer’s individual needs of who access health and social care services.

Health related qualifications are not a requirement to study this programme.

You will be taught using a range of teaching techniques including classroom delivered sessions, interactive workshops and self-study. Most teaching will take place in the classroom, with some opportunities for you to access online learning.

English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career.

If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE Maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.

We have a number of links to industry including relationships with Mind, Parkinson’s Group, NHS, Sunderland Care and Support, Sunderland Home Care Association, Bluebird Care, as well as a number of local charitable organisations to ensure you gain an outstanding learning experience with us and are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to progress to a career in industry.

The programme is delivered in half a day over the course of the year.

This course could take place Monday – Friday between 9am and 3pm. You will be informed upon enrolment.

This programme will develop the essential knowledge and understanding necessary for working within the Health and Care sector. You will develop your knowledge of infection prevention and control as well as how to deliver effective customer service within health and social care settings. You will develop your awareness of customer service skills in health and social care, effective communication, as well as an understanding of customer’s individual needs of who access health and social care services.

You will study a several modules when studying this course including:

- Principles of the causes and spread of infection in health care settings
- Principles of the importance of personal hygiene and health in the prevention and control of infection in health care settings
- Principles of decontamination, cleaning and waste management in health care settings
- Principles of infection prevention and control in a health care setting
- Preparing to deliver customer service in health and social care settings
- Understanding the specific needs of customers accessing health and social care services
- Effective communication for health and social care
- Teamwork in health and social care settings

The programme provides you with the opportunity to develop the essential knowledge required for employment or progression within the health and care sector.

What’s next?

You could stay with us and progress to a Level 3 in Health and Social Care, a Level 3 within the Health, Care or Education sector for example: Understanding Mental Health, Health and Social Care or Childcare and Education or you could progress straight into industry and gain a job in within the Mental Health, Care or Education sector.
